‘Be job creators not job seekers’ – Governor Biswabhusan Harichandan tells students of Sri Venkaeswara Veterinary University
Vijayawada, July 7 (prajaamaravathi): Andhra Pradesh Governor and Chancellor of Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University, Tirupati, Sri Biswabhusan Harichandan presided over the 11th Convocation of the University, in virtual mode from Raj Bhavan here on Thursday.
Addressing the students, Governor Sri Harichandan said that the National Education Policy 2020 envisages broad based, multi-disciplinary, holistic education with flexible curriculum, by establishing a comprehensive framework through 4Cs i.e. Critical Thinking, Creativity, Communication and Collaboration, which helps the students to develop competence, capability, capacity building, acquiring skills, expertise and confidence to start their own enterprise and become “Job Creators instead of Job Seekers”. He further said that the ‘Start-up India’ initiative of the Government of India offers ample opportunities of financing for Start-up ventures and incentives to boost entrepreneurship and job creation.
The Governor congratulated the students who received their degrees and Gold Medals and said that the students of the University are already familiar with the prospects available in the Dairy and Fisheries sectors as they were exposed to “Earn While You Learn” and “Experiential Learning” programmes during their studies, which had generated self-confidence among them in the beginning of their professional career itself, to grow as entrepreneurs later.
He said that the profession of agriculture and allied sectors like Dairy, Livestock, Fisheries etc. is helping farmers to double their income and contributing to the growth and development of the country apart from improving food and nutritional security, generating income and employment by acting as a cushion against crop failure, and also contributing to the country’s foreign exchange through exports. According to studies, livestock is the principal source of income of nearly 23% of agricultural households in the country and dairying has become an important secondary source of income for millions of rural families, said the Governor. The Governor further said that Andhra Pradesh State stood at 1st place in the fisheries sector in India, contributing 7.4% to the State’s GDP and 8% of total milk of India accounting for more than 15.50 million tonnes, is produced in the State.
Prof. K.N. Selva Kumar, Vice Chancellor of the Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, participated as the Chief Guest and delivered the key note address. Prof. V. Padmanabha Reddy, Vice Chancellor read out the Annual Report of the University. On behalf of the University, Dr. G. Venkata Naidu and Dr. P. Malakondaiah felicitated the Chancellor by presentation of a memento and shawl. Sri R.P. Sisodia, Special Chief to Governor was also present on the occasion.
