Governor presents medals to Red Cross officials
Vijayawada, October 28 (prajaamaravathi): Andhra Pradesh Governor and President of Indian Red Cross Society, Andhra Pradesh State Branch Sri Biswabhusan Harichandan participated in the annual general meeting of the Red Cross Society held in S.S. Convention Hall here on Friday.
Addressing the Members, Governor Sri Harichandan said that the Indian Red Cross Society, Andhra Pradesh State Branch has been in the forefront in delivering humanitarian services to the needy and vulnerable sections of the society, with a strong commitment of the members which has been recognized at the national- level.
The Governor appreciated the good work done by the members and the District Collectors & District Presidents, for playing an important role in strengthening the District Branches, and providing necessary financial resources for the cause of Red Cross Society. He praised their commitment and quick response to the needy people, during the COVID-19 pandemic by providing food and shelter to migrant workers.
“There is an urgent need to create awareness on tree plantation on a large scale, among youth and students by highlighting the benefits of tree planation and how they can help reduce the impacts of climate change and how massive tree plantation can also help in reducing temperatures and levels of air pollution,” said the Governor. He also stressed on the need to curb use of single-use plastic and clearing of plastic waste by mobilizing the youth and students. The Governor congratulated Dr. A. Sridhar Reddy, Chairman, Sri R. P. Sisodia, Special Chief Secretary to Governor & Vice-President and Sri A. K. Parida, General Secretary of AP State Branch, for successfully organizing several programmes to provide humanitarian aid and services to the needy people.
The Governor appealed to the members of the Red Cross society to organize more blood donation camps, so that not a single life is lost for want of blood. He said the COVID-19 pandemic had posed a great menace to the entire society, to the nation and to the humanity as a whole and the entire situation in our country, was tackled by our Prime Minister, in such a way that the whole world was surprised. He urged the members to take up tree plantation as a sacred mission to overcome the danger caused by pollution, which is no less than the COVID-19 pandemic.
Governor Sri Harichandan presented medals and certificates to District Collectors Sri Shrikesh B. Lathkar, Srikakulam, Sri S. Dilli Rao, NTR district, Sri P. Ranjit Basha, Krishna, A. Dinesh Kumar, Prakasam, Smt. A. Surya Kumari, Vizianagaram and Dr. R. Mahesh Kumar, East Godavari, presently Joint Collector, NTR district, for outstanding performance in enrolling a greater number of members in the Red Cross and congratulated the winners of the edals and certificates for their achievement.
