Kakinada, September 28 (prajaamaravati):

Shri Sreerama Murthy Kandala, I.I.S., District Field Publicity Officer, Government of India, emphasized the importance of collective efforts toward a cleaner and more hygienic India. The Central Bureau of Communication, under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, organized a mini ICOP (Interpersonal Communication Outreach Programme) on cleanliness at the Ideal College of Engineering and Technology, Kakinada.

He urged students, parents, and citizens to actively participate in the ongoing "Swachhata Hi Seva" campaign from September 17 to October 2. He stressed that maintaining cleanliness in our surroundings, workplaces, villages, and towns is essential for a cleaner Kakinada, a cleaner Andhra Pradesh, and a cleaner India.

Shri Kandala also noted the significance of hosting the program near Gandhinagar, a place tied to Mahatma Gandhi's legacy. He recalled that 103 years ago, on April 2, 1921, Mahatma Gandhi visited Cocanada (now Kakinada), addressing a gathering of 40,000 people at Elwinpeta. The place where he spoke later became known as Gandhi Nagar.

Shri Venkat Reddy, DLPO, Government of Andhra Pradesh, emphasized that the "Swachhata Hi Seva" program, inspired by Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals, is focused on achieving clean villages through improved sanitation. The slogan, "Swabhav Swachhta - Sanskar Swachhta" (Cleanliness in Nature and Culture), aligns with this vision.

Shri Krishnam Raju, Director of the Institution, mentioned that "Swachhata Hi Seva" programs under the Swachh Bharat Mission are being organized nationwide to honor Mahatma Gandhi’s legacy and encourage the adoption of cleanliness as a way of life.

Shri Subhramanya Murthy, Vice Principal, highlighted that Swachh Bharat Divas not only engages citizens in cleanliness efforts but transforms them into active participants in maintaining clean environments.

During the event, aprons were distributed to sanitation workers for their dedicated efforts in keeping the area clean. Following this, Shri Sreerama Murthy, along with Shri Krishnam Raju and Shri Venkat Reddy, planted saplings under the Prime Minister's "A Sapling in Mother's Name" initiative. Students and lecturers joined in raising slogans promoting "Swachhata Hi Seva," encouraging collective action for cleanliness.

A key attraction of the event was a magic show performed by Song and Drama artists from the Central Bureau of Communication, which captivated the audience.

On the previous day, CBC organized various competitions on Swachh Bharat for students. The winners were awarded prizes and certificates during the event. The Field Publicity Officer of CBC Kakinada also felicitated officials with shawls.

Several district officials, lecturers, college staff, and a large number of students participated in the program.
