Gangasagar Mela in West Bengal ended

Gangasagar Mela in West Bengal has come to an end this evening. Massive Beach cleaning drive took place in the morning prior to conclusion of Mela. The State Administration awarded various NGOs and Social Welfare Organisations for their outstanding work in maintaining cleanliness during the Mela.
Over one Crore 10 lakhs devotees visited Gangasagar this year. The State Administration made elaborate arrangements for the convenience of pilgrims who assembled from different parts of the globe at Gangasagar on the occasion of Makarsankranti. Devotees offered Puja to Kapil Muni Temple after a holy dip at the confluence of Bay of Bengal and Bhagirathi.
On the occasion of Makarsankranti a special Sagar Arati was organised on the beach of the sea which enthrolled the audience. The program marked the cultural and spiritual diversity of the country.
A spokesperson of the State Government has claimed that no major accident or untoward incident happened this time at Gangasagar. Most of the pilgrims have left for their destinations safely. Over 6 thousand missing pilgrims have been handed over to their families. The State Government put special emphasis to make the Mela as Green Gangasagar by maintaining cleanliness in all respect. The State also reiterated it's demand to the Centre to declare Gangasagar Mela as a National Mela on the lines of Kumbh Mela at Prayagraj.
