Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), conducts Industry Meet in Eluru

Eluru District Collector Smt. K. Vetri Selvi inaugurated an “Industry Meet” organised by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Vijayawada Branch, here today.
BIS Meet aimed to raise awareness among Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) about the importance of standardization and quality practices, was organized in collaboration with the Andhra Pradesh Department of Industries and the Federation of Small and Medium Enterprises India (FSME India).
Vetri Selvi emphasized on the immense potential for MSME development in the district. She underlined the role of Indian Standards in improving export competitiveness and ensuring global acceptance of Indian products. She lauded BIS’s consistent efforts in advancing the quality and standardization across the country.
Highlighting BIS activities Smt. Prem Sajani Patnala, Director of BIS informed that over 23 thousand Indian Standards and promoting quality certification. She elaborated on the benefits of standards adoption for MSMEs and briefed the participants on BIS’s Management System Certification schemes. Member of Parliament Shri Putta Mahesh Kumar addressed the gathering and appreciated BIS’s outreach initiatives for MSMEs in Eluru, a region with strong industrial growth potential.
Shri D. Subramanyeswara Rao, District Industries Officer, Eluru, spoke on the global competitiveness enabled by Indian Standards and commended BIS’s support in facilitating product certification for MSMEs. He also discussed relevant government subsidies and schemes aimed at easing the certification process and emphasized how BIS certification—both voluntary and mandatory—enhances consumer confidence and product quality.
FSME India National President Shri A. P. K. Reddy praised BIS efforts, including hallmarking, and initiatives like Standards Clubs that bring standardization awareness to students.
A comprehensive technical presentation was delivered by Shri Durgum Vivek Vardhan Reddy, Scientist-C and Deputy Director, BIS Vijayawada. His session covered a wide array of topics including Indian Standards, Quality Control Orders (QCOs), BIS CARE App usage, product certification procedures, testing methodologies, and laboratory capabilities. He also explained the Foreign Manufacturers Certification Scheme (FMCS), which oversees the regulation of imported goods. The session concluded with an interactive Q&A, where participants provided valuable feedback.
The event witnessed the participation of over 230 stakeholders, including industry officials from departments such as fire services, electricity, and skill development, and other government bodies. The meet served as an effective platform for dialogue and reinforced BIS’s continued commitment to quality assurance, safety, and MSME empowerment.
