Andhra Pradesh contributed many great freedom fighters to India’s Independence movement: Governor Biswabhusan Harichandan

Vijayawada, August 12 (prajaamaravathi): Andhra Pradesh Governor Sri Biswabhusan Harichandan, participated as Chief Guest at the concluding programme of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, commemorating 75 years of India’s Independence, organized by the Sakshi TV media group at Thummalapalli Kalakshetram here on Friday. 

Governor Sri Harichandan felicitated family members of freedom fighters including Smt. Susheela, grand daughter of Sri Pingali Venkayya, the designer of national flag, Sri Koppala Hanumantha Rao, grandson of Koppala Hanumantha Rao, Sri Kakani Vijayakumar, grandson of Sri Kakani Venkatratnam, Sri Mahabhalesara Rao, grandson of Sri Ayyadevara Kaleswara Rao, the first Speaker of Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly, Sri Chintakayala Chittibabu, son of Sri Chintakayala Bullemma and Sri Satyanarayana, Smt. Bhogireddi Adilakshmi, granddaughter of Pasala Krishna Murthy and Smt. Anjilakshmi, Smt. Penumatsa Shyamala, daughter of Penumatsa Subbanna. 

The Governor gave away prizes to winners of Elocution and Essay writing competitions conducted Sakshi TV media group, among students of different schools.     

Speaking on the occasion, Governor Sri Harichandan said that the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav is a great occasion and a great initiative to pay tributes to our freedom fighters, whose sacrifices won freedom for the nation and paved the way for the people to enjoy the fruits of freedom and the it is dedicated to the people of India who have been instrumental in taking the country forward on its evolutionary journey and lead the country on its growth path.

The Governor said he had the opportunity to participate in the 125th birth anniversary celebrations of Manyam Veerudu Alluri Sitharama Raju, inaugurated by Prime Minister Sri Narendra Modiji on 4th July 2022, in which the Prime Minister applauded the efforts of Alluri Sitaram Raju and his tribal identity, ideas, values, and culture, along with his life journey and sacrifice for the country. He said Andhra Pradesh contributed so many great freedom fighters, whose contribution cannot be forgotten. And the Tiranga is a great contribution of Andhra Pradesh to the nation. He said that the initial design of the national flag was finalized during the Vijayawada Session of the Congress party, when Pingali Venkkayya showed his design to Mahatma Gandhi and made certain changes to the flag as per suggestion of the Mahatma.   

Gandhiji’s call to the British to quit India was underestimated as the British did not know the confidence and foresight of Mahatma Gandhi, which saw lakhs of freedom fighters from Kashmir to Kanyakumari joining Mahatma Gandhi, and eventually driving the Britishers from the country. He drew attention of the people to the call given by Prime Minister Sri Narendra Modi to hoist Tiranga on top of every house and appealed to the people to hoist the national flag from 13th August to 15th August, to send a message to the world that the country is one and always united.  

Governor Sri Harichandan congratulated the Sakshi TV media group for organizing these events as part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations by felicitating family members of the freedom fighters and conducting Elocution and Essay writing competitions among the students in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
