Governor Biswabhusan Harichandan participated at the 37th & 38th Convocation of Acharya Nagarjuna University  


Vijayawada, August 20 (prajaamaravathi): Andhra Pradesh Governor & Chancellor of Acharya Nagarjuna University Sri Biswabhusan Harichandan participated at the 37th & 38th Convocation of Acharya Nagarjuna University held in the University auditorium on Saturday.   

Delivering the Convocation address, Governor Sri Harichandan said that as a country, we have advanced in infrastructure, industries, healthcare, education, science, technology and agriculture and we owe this the Indians, who are deeply committed for the development of the country with a zeal to make India the best in the world. 


The Governor said that the National Education Policy 2020, replaces the 34-year-old National Policy on Education (NPE) of 1986 and the new policy is built on the foundational pillars of Access, Equity, Quality, Affordability and Accountability, and is aligned with the 2030 Agenda of Sustainable Development. He said that the NEP 2020 aims at transforming India into a vibrant knowledge society and global knowledge superpower by making both school and college education more holistic, flexible, multidisciplinary, suited to 21st century needs and aimed at bringing out the unique capabilities of each student.


He further said that the NEP 2020 focuses on increasing the Gross Enrolment Ratio in higher education including vocational education from 26.3% (2018) to 50% by 2035 and that 3.5 Crore new seats will be added to Higher education institutions with an aim to ensure inclusive and equitable education system by 2030. He further added that a university can grow successfully only when research and teaching go together seamlessly and that we must ensure the development of a collaborative environment conducive to learning, exposure to the best international practices and promotion of innovation and creativity. The Governor congratulated the students who received their degrees and medals at the Convocation. 


Justice Sri. N. V. Ramana, Chief Justice of India, who participated as Chief Guest at the Convocation, was conferred the degree of Honoris Causa by the University. Sri Botcha Satyanarayana, Minister for Education participated in the Convocation as Guest of Honour. 

Delivering his address as Chief Guest at the Convocation, Chief Justice of India Sri N.V. Ramana, said he felt extremely privileged to receive honorary degree from his own university. He said that in modern independent India, education was not just a movement for self-enlightenment, it was a movement seeking social upliftment and economic revolution. He further said that in a world shaped on science and technology, it is education that determines the level prosperity, welfare, and security of the people.   

Earlier, Prof. P. Raja Sekhar, Vice Chancellor, presented the Annual Reports of the University. Sri Biswabhusan Harichandan, Chancellor of the University was felicitated with a memento by Prof. P. Raja Sekhar, Vice Chancellor of the University.
