Swachhata Hi Seva Kicks Off in Assam: 3,500 Saplings Planted
From Cleanliness Pledges to Tree Plantation, Assam Embraces Swachhata Hi Seva
The Swachhata Hi Seva fortnightly campaign was officially kicked off in Assam by Shri Ashok Singhal, the Minister of Housing & Urban Affairs, Government of Assam. This initiative features a range of cleanliness activities, including a significant plantation drive, Swachhata pledges, and rallies across various districts.
A total of 120 events have been registered statewide, involving 115 Cleanliness Target Units (CTUs) that focus on transformation initiatives. Additionally, approximately 3,500 saplings were planted as part of the "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" campaign, honoring mothers through tree planting.
The state launch has been followed by district-level activities across all 35 districts of Assam, organized collaboratively by the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), Panchayat and Rural Development (P&RD), and SBM-Urban officials. Public participation has been remarkable, with many individuals engaging in sapling planting and taking Swachhata Pledges at district offices and PHE divisions.
In Kokrajhar district, locals organized a ‘Swachhata Rally’ to raise awareness about the importance of cleanliness in daily life.
The Swachhata Hi Seva campaign, spearheaded by the Ministry of Jal Shakti and the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, will run from September 17 to October 2, 2024, culminating on Swachh Bharat Diwas.
