Lokesh blames Jagan greed for suicides of youth

Police torture caused death of Rajahmundry youth

Majji driven to death for bringing just 2 bottles

CM committing Rs 25,000 Cr fraud in the name of prohibition

AMARAVATI (prajaamaravati): TDP National General Secretary and MLC Nara lokesh on Saturday expressed serious concern that the innocent youth of Andhra Pradesh were not also facing untold problems but also falling prey to the unquenchable greed of Chief Minister Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy.

Mr. Lokesh deplored that even before the people had forgotten the suicide of Guntur district minority youth Ali Shah, another youth named Pichchiki Majji committed suicide in Rajahmundry due to the excise police harassment. It was painful that Majji belonging to the weavers' community took his own life, unable to bear victimisation just for bringing two liquor bottles from across the border.

In a statement here, Mr. Nara Lokesh said that it was CM Jagan Reddy who was widely known as the 'brand ambassador' for illegal liquor. But now, the hapless youth of the State were falling victim and losing their precious lives sheerly because of the Chief Minister's unquenchable thirst for illegal money. It was only because of the torture from the police that the Rajahmundry youth ended his life.

Mr. Lokesh slammed the Government for not trying to save the lives of the youth when they were being harassed unbearably just for bringing liquor bottles from the other State. The police drove the youth to commit suicide for bringing just two bottles from across the border. Then, what sort of punishment should these police give to Mr. Jagan Reddy for committing Rs. 25,000 Cr of fraud under the cover of liquor prohibition.

Mr. Nara Lokesh demanded that the Government should order a fair probe into the circumstances that caused the death of these two youths. Stringent action should be taken against the police officers who were responsible for their ghastly suicides. In addition to this, the Government should extend all the required support to their respective families. The ruling party leaders would have to pay a heavy penalty if they continued their harassment in collusion with the police.

Mr. Lokesh said that the youth of all sections in the State were facing uncertainty and instability in their lives ever since Mr. Jagan Reddy became the Chief Minister. On the one hand, the youth were not having any new opportunities in educational and employment spheres. On the other hand, the young generation in AP was facing harassment and torture in the hands of the authorities. One youth was tonsured just for questioning illegal sand mining. Another was beaten to death for not wearing a mask. Yet another youth was driven to death just for protesting against the high rates and low quality of liquor.
