Kolkata; January 02, 2025 (prajaamaravati);

Union Minister of Textiles, Shri Giriraj Singh visited ICAR-CRIJAF, Barrackpore today. The Minister interacted with LakhpatiDidis/HSGs and visited Seeds and implements stalls there.

Interacting with the media, the Minister said, Jute bag prices are expected to rise from 1 lakh 15 thousand per quintal to Rs. 2 lakh as the Government has approved a new pricing methodology for jute sacking bags based on Tariff Commission study report, which will provide better pricing to jute mills. This move will benefit around 4 lakh jute mill workers and 40 lakh farmer families engaged in jute cultivation, primarily in West Bengal.

This would also facilitate jute mills for investment in the jute industry for modernization and diversification. The decision is aligned with the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat by promoting domestic jute production and protecting the environment through the use of biodegradable and renewable jute.

The Minister said that sale of jute products is expected to cross Rs. 14,000 crores current year.

As part of the Government's transformative vision for the textiles sector, the Ministry of Textiles has taken several initiatives, covering all segments of textile sector (Infrastructure, Technical Textiles, Research and Development, Startups, Empowering artisans/weavers, Strengthening natural fibre sectors like Silk & Jute), focusing on strengthening the sector's contribution to growth and enhancing India’s position in the global textile industry, the Minister added.
